Phone sex is better than Porn
Regina Lynn, in her weekly erotic column, Sex Drive for Wired, looks into phone sex and report on 'Midori, a sex educator based in San Francisco, of all places who believes we should all be using our mobile phones to spice up our sex lives. 'We may be dependent on our cell phones these days, but what do we talk about?' she asks. 'We say, 'Hey, where are you, how's the party?'' Given our busy schedules and feelings of disconnectedness, she sees an opportunity to bring lovers closer together, talking in real time or leaving erotic messages throughout the day. One of her favorite techniques is the erotic cliffhanger, where you figure out the maximum length allowed for a single message on your lover's phone. Call when you know he or she can't answer and start talking. 'Go into detail,' she says, describing what you'd like to do to them, right now or tomorrow or next week, 'and then at exactly the right moment.
Scott Peterson trial verdict to be sent out by SMS
In a novel twist on how Television gets the message, those addicted to the Scott Peterson trial, can sign up on Court TV for instant text messages with the jury's verdict, reports the Contras Times. 'The crime and punishment cable channel is allowing its Web site users to sign up for free wireless text messages that will announce both when the jury has come back from deliberations and the verdict. The second will simply contain the words 'guilty' or 'not guilty.' Since the service was offered Oct. 29, 80,000 people have signed up to get the free verdict text message sent to their cell phones. Juice Wireless, which is partnering with Court TV on the text alert offer, has estimated 100,000 people eventually will sign up for the deal.' Peterson is accused of murdering his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son in December 2002. If convicted, Peterson could face the death penalty.
How SMS could save your life
Cell phones might be used to manage the treatment of HIV/AIDS in countries where health care systems are overburdened and doctors are scarce, reports Wired. ‘The Sizophila Project, an AIDS treatment program located in this township near Cape Town, uses a system called Cell-Life, a cell phone technology based plateform able to communicate information and logistical support. ‘The system combines a comprehensive database that includes a patient's treatment history and lab results with a messaging service that enables counselors, clinic staff and doctors to communicate using SMS. Visiting clients' homes, therapeutic counselors scroll through a series of menus to report on side effects, monitor adherence and provide detailed social information. Once every four months, they show up without an appointment to count the client's pills. They use SMS to send all of this information to a central database, where Sister Mtwisha can instantly view it on her computer screen. With all of the relevant informaton compiled neatly in front of her, the irregularities stand out. Cell phones are cheap and easy to operate -- even in the middle of nowhere. Forty percent of South Africans already use them, and the country's cellular networks cover 90 percent of the country, outstripping land lines in most rural areas.
TOMP (Translation On Your Mobile Phone)
The TOMP (Translation On Mobile Phones) service from A3UK allows any UK mobile phone user to translate words and phrases via text messaging, according to a company press release. No registration nor additional software is required to access the TOMP service, and it will work on any phone that is subscribed to a UK network provider, even when roaming abroad. Customers are charged on a per-translation basis through their normal billing provider, either by contract or pay-as-you-go. To use the service, customers send a text to 88800 stating the word TOMP followed by the languages to translate from and to, and then any word or phrase. e.g. TOMP ENGLISH GERMAN TWO PINTS OF BEER PLEASE. Within seconds, they receive a reply in their choice of European language. Currently, the service supports translation from and to English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Dutch. More mobiles than fixed phones in China. China's official news agency, People's Daily has reported that there are now more mobile phone users than there are landline phones in the country, according to Cellular News. ‘The country now has 259.638 million cell phones compared to 255.139 million landlines. |
